Buttons Wakefield sits comfortably at the crossroads of a café, bar, and casual dining spot, making it a versatile stop on Shay Lane in Walton. Whether you’re cycling through the area, meeting friends for a lazy afternoon drink, or grabbing a relaxed meal with family, Buttons offers a choice atmosphere that adapts well to a variety of local moods.

The vibe here leans toward cozy and inviting, with a layout that welcomes both solo visitors and lively groups, including those with dogs. It’s the kind of place where you might settle in for a strong coffee—like a flat white or matcha latte—while watching the world go by, or linger over cocktails and food during sunnier afternoons when the space opens up for outdoor seating. There’s enough room for kids to move around, which adds to the family-friendly feeling, especially when visiting with grandchildren or a pack of cycling friends.

Breakfast and lunch are especially lively times. Locals and passersby often stop here for a hearty start or a boozy midday break, supported by friendly but understandably stretched staff during busy spells. The food menu covers a broad range of tastes without feeling overwhelming, and the drink options extend beyond typical coffee bar offerings to include iced teas and spritzers that seem well-suited for warmer days.

One practical highlight is accessibility: Buttons is easy to find and convenient to park near, a small but important nod to the everyday rhythm of running errands or meeting up in the Walton area. The owners seem attuned to community needs, offering dog treats and planning stone-baked pizza nights that promise to add a casual evening vibe to their daytime buzz.

In use, Buttons Wakefield feels like a local hub that can flex between a relaxed coffee spot and a lively bar-restaurant. It doesn’t rush the experience but invites you to carve out your own pace, whether that’s a quick drink after a morning cycle or a slow, sunny lunch with cocktails in hand.

An excellent boozy lunch out. Service was excellent, food was very good. It was a very pleasant way to spend a sunny afternoon with a nice atmosphere. Plenty of choice across the various menus and a good range of drinks including cocktails. We’ll be back.

Loved this place. So cosy and the food was excellent. I dined alone with my dog and was asked to take a seat and a menu would be brought to me. The staff were extremely busy I grant you, but I had to wait 20 minutes for a menu, and people arriving after me were served food even before I was given a menu. I realise it was a busy time, but wait staff need to keep an eye on people and how far they are in their meal. As an ex hotelier and chef, I patiently waited until service resumed. The food was great, but the baked potato I really wanted had run out. 1.30pm. The Button burger was a great alternative though. Very popular, and very busy. I still left a tip to the waiting staff. They were incredibly polite and apologetic. I will definitely return, again with my dog, and would definitely recommend. Just make yourself known should you be forgotten.

We were cycling on the Tpt, some locals advised us to pop here for breakfast! Best Decision ever! Although very busy staff were all very nice and friendly and there breakfast offerings were amazing along with a great coffee! Helped us complete our cycling trip to Hull! We will return with more cycling friends! Outstanding.

Easy to find and park. Lovely welcome as we arrived and great menu. Plus - tasty doggie treats! Stayed for second cup of coffee and chat with friends. Great atmosphere - wishing owners great success with their new venture. Looking forward to sampling stone baked Pizza evening, at weekend. Jan.

We’ve been to buttons many times before as we live local and love it there, so we thought it would be nice to book for our daughter’s first birthday brunch. We were a big table of 18 adults/kids. From start to finish the service was brilliant as was the food and drinks. Shauna and the rest of the buttons staff were super friendly and helpful! They kept checking in with us for extra drinks etc and went out of their way to be as helpful as possible and interact with our daughter and make sure we had everything we needed the whole time. It was perfect! Thank you so much! Xx

We made a visit here for breakfast as a special treat for my friends birthday. We had great service by Ben, who even gifted a mimosa to the birthday girl which I thought was above and beyond and came as such a great surprise so a huge thank you it made a special morning even better! We both chose a full English breakfast which was absolutely fabulous and both really enjoyed. The quality is top notch! We will both definitely be returning again in the future! Thank you!

I found this place by accident while scrolling on Google maps. Booked in for a lunch with friends. The place and atmosphere was really nice. The staff were really friendly. It was great to see a little independent place so busy. I got the Canadian burger (without cheese). The meat was delicious; juicy without being greasy. Also had a lovely white choc and blueberry cake.
